Graduation

I graduated today! Well it's not the official ceremony but I did have my portfolio show today and that's about as good as it's going to get for the art kids. Unfortunately you cannot know how excited I am through the computer. It's pretty amazing after four years I am finally done. I should probably be questioning the 'what now?' and all. However I am not too worried and maybe I should be but I am doing my best to remain optimistic. October I will continue working the internship and maybe some freelance. In November I am taking the huge leap and moving to California.

Forgive me for the no show for the last couple of months. I do have an excuse that I was working on my portfolio this whole time, which I will continue to do but you can see it here. Website is an ongoing thing but it works and is essentially all there yay!

Their really isn't any excuse for me not keeping up with the blogs I follow. That's no way to keep and make friends and I am sorry everyone. I will make with the commenting right away.

My table at graduation/portfolio show. And of course me!

Close up of my table. I got completely cleaned out of packages and flatbooks, except for one flatbook which I will keep to show to employers. Stickers are gone too. Those were not a bad idea, apparently I am not the only on who loves them. The dean wore my sticker the whole time, so thanks are in order for her for the free advertising. She is a pretty sweet lady, like the grandmother of AIA. I still have postcards, I will get to them later and business cards. Will be creating more later for job search.

I would post more pictures of the show but I don't know if my blog is really the place for it. If you want to see more then say hi and befriend me on facebook. I wasn't the only one who graduated by the way and I am sure they wouldn't mind but I am not posting their pics because I really don't want to receive a cease and desist from Chi or Jason, lol(again you can see on facebook).

Chi graduated best in show and with good reason, she is an amazing illustrator and animator. I don't really have to sing the praises of this girl(i do it cause I love her), her work speaks for itself. Of course I can't forget Jason he is all around awesome with a focus on animation and motion graphics but he can pretty much do anything. So go check them out and congratulate them. Kthx!

Red postcard

Dogler Postcard!

One more but its what is on the main page of my website essentially. Me with the Utah teapot, if you are not a modeler you may not understand but it is now 2 am and I am not feeling as sharp or witty so if you want to know more then there is always wikipedia.

Oh and if you want some postcards or business cards just shoot me an email with your address and I would be happy to send those to you!

I was going to write this long sentimental post thanking everyone personally and I may yet do that but Jason really wants a new post now. I am not saying he's wrong either, it's about time I posted something. So thank you to my parents, grandparents, sister, and friends for the continued love and support. I love you guys :D

If anyone has any sage advice about the future, the industry, or whatever I am all ears!

End of Quarter Post

WOO! End of winter quarter and just two more quarters to go. Got lots of stuff to post from this quarter. What I got done this quarter: 8 Turnarounds, 3 characters modeled, 2 rigs built, 1 website built, 1 flash game level designed, 1 storyboard, 1 animatic, and lots of character designs.

Turnarounds and concepts:

Some gestures from open life drawing:

Sun Wukong, The Monkey King (work in progress):

A sweet character created by Chi Duong (she's fantastic so check her out) that I am modeling. This is an older version because I just remembered I don't have mental ray on my home computer which equals no renders for you. At least for now ;p
No worries the finished version will be on my demo reel, so you peeps will just have to be patient.

Flash game level:
So here it is, not in all it's glory...Took most of the sound out for the blog version.

So many things I still want to do with this but didn't have enough time in class or are not possible because we had to use actionscript 1.0 on this part :(

I added an extra character and hoped to do a few extra levels and a boss fight. Probably going to have to wait till school is over though.

She bites back...

Flash game I am creating for class. It's so much fun! Be reminded this is a work in progress. The whole project is not due until the end of the quarter with a level and baddies and all. Plus Red still needs some tweaking.

To play:
move [right and left arrows]
jump [up arrow]
attack [space bar]
(When it's completed their will be a throw [down arrow])

Warning: This does have sound. I took the sound out of the opening of the game, it will however start playing when you push play and will continue after you push stop. So if you want to stop it you may have to refresh the page. I could have taken it out all together but what is the fun in that? :D

Moar models!

Been working on developing these two characters since the beginning of the quarter. I have been referring to the dog as a dogler because I was trying to combine a bull dog and an angler fish. The final design looks more like pig/shark than dog/fish. Nonetheless I like the way he turned out even though it went through a ton of revisions.

Initial sketches, decided on the one in the bottom right hand corner. One of the simplest and coolest ones that I created.

The turnaround ended up fatter with the eyes attached to the face. He also became more angular and fatter.

So this is the finished model... this picture is not that good. For some reason it got squashed and it has not yet been lit.

Better representation.

Girl/owner of dog above. I was kinda playing with her being from space but don't think that is how she comes across. She essentially stayed the same from start to finish.

Final model :D

Merry Christmas to all and to all...

Decided to enter the 3dtotal sculpting challenge this time around. Couldn't resist, I mean it's a sculpt of Santa!! Plus I really need more practice at sculpting.

So here is the base mesh given to everyone:

Here is my final submission in 5 hours:

So much love for christmas and the season. And yes I made a reindeer out of that cube....squeeee! I love reindeer and most kinds of deer, they are so beautiful. Couldn't exactly capture the majesty of a reindeer's antlers for obvious reasons seen in original mesh. However if it were somehow possible to do please let me know so I can fix it. K thx!

I will be out of town until New Years but I promise when I get back I will post some more(fingers crossed). I am working on stuff, it's just a matter of getting it finished or at least semi-finished. Everyone have a Happy Holiday! I <3 you guys :D
